RESEARCH STATEMENT
At the heart of research is an essential balance between an openness to new ideas and the incorporation of traditional pedagogy and methodology. The wellspring of my research philosophy begins with this concept of balance and follows Dewey’s strategy of experiential learning: “Give the pupils something to do, not only something to learn. The doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”
A primary goal of my research is to promote self-learning so that students become independent in their pursuit of knowledge. In today’s world, with global resources of learning literally at our fingertips, the people we assist are able to move beyond the walls of the classroom and enter into their own dialogue with inquiry. I perceive my purpose as a researcher/mentor to be one of direction and knowledge-sharing by the provision of diverse, credible data and resources.
