Untargeted Metabolomics Figs. 1-4

Figure 1. Matched/unmatched combinations with negative polarity (n=4,896).

Figure 2. Matched/unmatched combinations with positive polarity (n=6,497).

A total of 3057 (62.4%) compounds with negative polarity were matched between the pig and ding samples; 1799 compounds (36.8%) in the pig sample were not present in the ding sample and 40 compounds (0.8%) in the ding sample were not present in the pig sample. A total of 3450 (53.1%) compounds with positive polarity were matched between the pig and ding samples; 2990 compounds (46%) in the pig sample were not present in the ding sample and 57 compounds (0.9%) in the ding sample were not present in the pig sample.

Figure 3. Matched/unmatched combinations (n=98) of identified untargeted molecules with negative polarity.

Figure  4. Matched/unmatched combinations (n=124) of identified untargeted molecules with positive polarity.

Unfortunately, only a very small number of the untargeted compounds were identified with the name and molecular formula, 98 with negative polarity and 124 with positive polarity (Figs. 3-4). However, with the identified compounds, a much greater percentage were matched in both the pig and ding samples: 87.8% of negative polarity compounds (Fig. 3) and 79.8% in the positive polarity compounds (Fig. 4) were matched between the 2 samples; 11.2% of negative pig compounds and 19.4% of positive pig compounds were not present in the ding compounds while only a small percentage of compounds present in the ding was absent in the pig compounds. Unmatched compounds in the samples were metabolic intermediaries (Lanehart, et al., 2018b).

Some identified compounds matched between the pig and ding samples included:

  • Nucleic Bases: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine (RNA AUCG)

  • Nuceloside: Uridine

  • Nucleotide: Adenosine 5’-Monophosphate (AMP)

  • Amino Acids: L-arginine, L-asparagine, L-cysteine, L-glutamine, L-glycine, L-histidine, Homocysteine, L-leucine, Phenylalanine, L-proline, L-serine, L-tryptophan, L-tyrosine

  • Muscle Related: Carnosine, Creatine, Creatine D-3, Lactate

  • Metabolic Intermediates & Others: δ-Aminolevulinic acid, Choline, Kynurenic Acid, Malonate, Pantothenic Acid, Succinate, Urate
